Gloom and Bloom

The school holidays have ended and we are grateful that in this part of the world we have had a season of gentle rain and gloomy weather. This has resulted in a lot of green grass and Summer flowers. Both things are a gift from God after the sadness and loss in our community after last year’s bushfires.

The kids floating at Tathra. All parts of family outings are still my job. It was worth it on this day!

Our most recent outing included the whole family – we went to the movies nearby to see the movie “Penguin Bloom” for 2 reasons. Firstly, it explores the lives of a young Australian family after a big accident. Secondly, the main character of the film shared the rehab gym with Ariel 7 years ago…

At the movies….
A film that explores loss and recovery from trauma and spinal injury

We were all moved by some feelings of understanding and reality by watching this film. It was helpful for me to focus in on our own life with spinal injury. But I am grateful that my faith causes me to also “zoom out” from our little life. I recently saw these signs in the city when taking one of our kids to an appointment… What a great thing to be reminded to “look up”…

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever and righteousness will never fail. Isaiah 51:6

For pray-ers:

Thank God that His salvation lasts forever and righteousness never fails in Jesus

Thank God for rain, beaches and movies

Pray for our family as Ariel and I juggle part time work with some extra study this month

Thank God for my Mum and Sister who helped me with swim lessons and care during summer work hours

Pray that we will all keep “looking up”

Much love in this new year

Kirsty
